Mimic
Popularized with the game Phasmophobia, The Mimic is an elusive and mysterious entity that has the ability to mirror traits and behaviors from other spirit types. It can imitate the movement patterns, vocalizations, and even the aggressive habits of a variety of ghosts, making it a primary source of confusion for investigators during a live session. Yet, whenever it mimics a specific ghost, it often lacks the core ‘evidence’ footprint of the original, leaving a subtle trail of inconsistency for the observant researcher.

In the broader realm of the paranormal, mimicry is most often associated with high-level Poltergeist activity or intelligent hauntings. These entities may use mimicry as a defense mechanism or as a means of psychological manipulation, adopting the voices of loved ones or the sounds of familiar household routines to lower the guard of those present.
This behavior suggests a level of consciousness that transcends a simple ‘recording’ of the past, indicating an entity that is actively observing and reacting to its environment.
Identifying a true mimic requires meticulous documentation of the timeline of events. If a haunting shifts from footsteps and whispers to aggressive physical disturbances or the visual manifestation of different ‘people’ at the same location, a mimic may be the focal point. Distinguishing between a site with multiple spirits and a single mimic is one of the most complex challenges in modern parapsychological investigation. – See Poltergeist
