Infrasound
Infrasound consists of low-frequency sound waves below the 20Hz threshold of human hearing. While these sounds cannot be heard, they can be felt. Scientific studies have shown that exposure to infrasound can trigger a ‘fear response’ in humans, characterized by unexplained anxiety, a sense of being watched, and physical chills. At certain frequencies, infrasound can even cause the human eye to vibrate, creating ‘grey-mass’ visual hallucinations in the peripheral vision.

For the paranormal investigator, detecting infrasound is a critical part of the debunking process. Natural sources like wind hitting a building, heavy machinery, or even old ventilation systems can create these sub-audible frequencies. By identifying and eliminating these natural causes, a researcher can determine if the dread reported by witnesses is environmental or truly anomalous.
