Derived from the term “cryptozoology,” or the study of hidden or unknown animals, cryptids encompass a wide array of mythical beings and creatures that allegedly roam remote and unexplored regions. These entities are often present in folklore, legends, and most commonly only evidenced by eyewitness accounts, making them subjects of intrigue and speculation.

The most common characteristic of cryptids is their elusiveness and the lack of conclusive evidence supporting their existence. Many cryptids are reported to inhabit dense forests, remote lakes, or desolate mountain ranges, contributing to the difficulty in verifying their existence through traditional scientific means. Instead, sightings and encounters with cryptids are often based on anecdotal evidence, folklore passed down through generations, or blurry photographs and videos that leave room for interpretation.
