Apparitions, commonly known as ghosts, refer to the visible or sensory manifestations of a deceased person, animal, or even an object. These manifestations can take various forms, from translucent figures and full-bodied apparitions to less defined shapes or mists. While often associated with specific locations or events, apparitions are generally believed to be the residual energy, consciousness, or essence of something that once was. The concept of ghosts spans cultures and centuries, with beliefs ranging from them being spirits of the dead unable to move on, to intelligent entities capable of interaction.

The experiences reported with apparitions vary widely, encompassing visual sightings, auditory phenomena like whispers or footsteps, sudden temperature drops, and even tactile sensations. Unlike residual hauntings, which are thought to be replays of past events, intelligent apparitions are believed to be aware of their surroundings and capable of responding to living individuals. Investigations into apparitions often involve attempts to communicate, using methods like Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) or spirit box sessions, to understand their nature and intentions. The study of apparitions remains a cornerstone of paranormal research, continuously challenging our understanding of life, death, and consciousness.
