Poltergeist

Quick Definition: The word “poltergeist” is derived from the German words “poltern” meaning “to knock” and “geist” meaning “ghost”.

Poltergeists, while sometimes referred to as a noisy ghost can be much more than auditory sounds. This noise can include mimicry, which is why mimic links here. There can be instances of things moving, doors opening or closing, this disappearing, or sometimes even physical attacks. They are often blamed for physical disturbances such as loud noises, unexplained movements of objects, and even the breaking of household items. Poltergeists are often associated with mischievous behavior and are believed to be noisy and disruptive.

The physical attacks sometimes lead to poltergeist activity being classified as the work of something demonic. While most hauntings of this type are either frustrated or mischievous spirits, there is the potential for something much more dangerous.

That being said, poltergeist activities usually start out slowly and have the potential to expand into full possession. This is usually after the activity has centered around a certain person, started escalating to bite and scratch marks, and oftentimes is associated with disembodied guttural growling.
