Captain Grant’s 1754 is believed to be haunted by Mercy Adelaide Avery, who waits for her husband Captain William Grant (lost at sea), and is often seen with two ghostly children. Paranormal activity includes shower curtains being pulled down, TVs turning on and off, loud bangs, objects disappearing and reappearing, and sightings of a young girl named Deborah Adams who is buried in the nearby cemetery. The historic inn has been featured in media including a 2006 article in The New London Day newspaper and was named by CNN in 2003 as one of the best places to encounter a ghost.
