Just off Highway 67 and Old Charter Church Road, there’s a road called Old St. Louis Road. According to local lore, it was once a route from Farmington to St. Louis in the 1800s. Between then and 1954, thousands of people reportedly died along this path. Now, many say the spirits of the dead still haunt this stretch of road.
To experience it for yourself: follow Old Charter Church Road until you reach a gravel road that cuts into the woods. Drive down it slowly, around 15 to 20 miles per hour. After two or three minutes, stop your vehicle. Turn everything off. Sit in complete silence. Roll your windows down halfway—or all the way, if you're feeling brave.
That’s when things begin.
People have reported hearing voices in the woods and footsteps moving around them. The most common account involves the sound of a girl faintly screaming. Her voice grows louder until it suddenly cuts off. After a few quiet seconds, a man—blood covering his body—emerges from the trees and begins speaking to you.
Another frequent report comes when leaving. Some witnesses describe seeing an overturned car in the middle of the road. A man stands nearby, asking for help flipping it back over. Before or after that moment, many say they feel hands or fingers brushing against their legs and body.
