The barn has since burnt down and been rebuilt but the apparition remains. During the Civil War a family was murdered by the Union for being Confederate Sympathizers. The women and children were thrown in the old cistern, the slave was hanged in the barn and the father was dragged to death in the valley in front of the house. To this day, if the moon is full, you can see the slave swaying in the rafters. Children are also heard laughing in the old house.
