Acceptable Use Policy

Last Updated: October 31, 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) defines the ethical, legal, and operational standards governing your access to and use of all Haunted Lineage services, including hauntedlineage.com, the HL Search engine, the Haunted Lineage Lab (web and mobile applications), and related collaborative community forums (collectively, the “Platform”). This policy forms an integral part of our Terms and Conditions.

By using the Platform, you agree to adhere strictly to this AUP. Violation of this policy may result in immediate suspension or permanent termination of your account, revocation of research credentials, and deletion of associated data.

1. Lawful Property Access & Anti-Trespassing Mandate

Field research and historical sweeps must always be conducted with lawful authority and respect for property rights:

  • Documented Permission Required: You must secure verified, lawful permission or written consent from property owners, site managers, or authorized public agencies before entering any location to conduct an investigation. Our provided agreement templates (such as the Site Access Permission Agreement) are general guides and do not confer legal permission on their own.
  • Strict No-Trespassing Rule: You must never trespass on private property, enter closed historical sites outside authorized hours, circumvent physical barricades, or ignore posted “No Trespassing” warnings.
  • Respect for Sacred and Historical Grounds: Investigations conducted on cemetery grounds, historic burial sites, memorial grounds, or religious properties must be conducted with absolute reverence. You may not disturb, sit on, alter, or damage grave markers, tombstones, flora, or structural monuments.
  • Emergency Vacate: You must immediately vacate any premises upon the request of property owners, law enforcement, or public safety personnel.

2. Electronic Recording, Wiretapping & Client Privacy

Paranormal field research frequently involves capturing audio, video, photography, and personal statements:

  • Recording Law Compliance: You are solely responsible for knowing and strictly complying with all federal, state, and local wiretap and electronic recording laws (including “two-party” or “all-party” consent jurisdictions such as California, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts). You must never record audio or video in areas with a reasonable expectation of privacy without prior, affirmative consent from every individual recorded.
  • Client Confidentiality: If you conduct an investigation on behalf of a residential homeowner, tenant, or private client, you must keep all client identities, addresses, and family details strictly confidential. You may not mark an investigation as “Public” in the Lab without an executed, signed media release from the client.
  • Protection of Minors: You may not record, photograph, interview, or document any individual under the age of 18 without the express, verified written consent of their parent or legal guardian.

3. Field Safety & Non-Certified Sensor Telemetry

The Lab provides environmental baselines (electromagnetic fields, barometric pressure, ambient temperature, infrasound, and carbon monoxide tracking) to help investigators evaluate the Null Hypothesis (natural explanations for anomalies):

  • Not Life-Safety Equipment: All sensor telemetry, graphs, and hardware indicators provided by the Platform are uncertified observational tools for historical and anomaly inquiry. THEY ARE NOT CERTIFIED LIFE-SAFETY MONITORS, INDUSTRIAL GAS DETECTORS, OR FIRE ALARMS.
  • No Hazardous Gas Advisories: You must never advise a homeowner, client, or team member that a property is safe or free from carbon monoxide, toxic gases, mold, or electrical hazards based on readings in the Lab. If hazardous conditions or toxic air are suspected, you must instruct occupants to evacuate and contact emergency services or certified municipal inspectors immediately.
  • Structural & Nocturnal Hazards: You are solely responsible for evaluating the physical safety of your investigation environments (including fall risks, asbestos, broken flooring, wiring hazards, and wildlife). Haunted Lineage LLC assumes no liability for physical injury, accidents, or death during field operations.

4. Evidence Integrity & Prohibition on Fraudulent Deception

Haunted Lineage is committed to scientific rigor, historical inquiry, and honest research:

  • No Fabricated Evidence: You may not intentionally doctor, fabricate, stage, or manipulate audio recordings, EVP files, photographic evidence, or sensor data with the intent to deceive clients, homeowners, team members, or the public.
  • No Fraudulent Solicitations: You may not use the Platform or fabricated findings to charge fraudulent “cleansing” fees, exploit vulnerable or grieving individuals, or conduct fear-based extortion schemes.
  • Clear Methodology: When sharing public investigation records, you are encouraged to disclose your environmental baselines and equipment setup openly to promote collaborative analysis.

5. Biometric Voiceprints & BIPA Compliance

The Lab provides acoustic voice-exclusion features using mathematical neural embeddings (ECAPA-TDNN) to isolate team chatter from potential EVPs:

  • Mandatory Self-Enrollment Only: Team administrators and lead investigators are strictly prohibited from enrolling a voiceprint on behalf of another person. Each investigator must personally execute the in-app electronic consent release before calibrating their vocal profile.
  • No Non-Consensual Embeddings: You may not process or upload voice samples of witnesses, property owners, or unconsenting third parties into the biometric exclusion database.
  • Automated Purge Adherence: You agree not to attempt to circumvent or reverse-engineer the automated 6-month biometric expiry and deletion routines enforced by the Lab.

6. System Security, Quota & API Integrity

To preserve platform stability, security, and fair access for all investigators, you agree not to:

  • Circumvent Tier Limits: Attempt to bypass storage quotas, subscription paywalls, multi-track DAW limits, or team seat restrictions;
  • Scrape or Harvest: Use automated bots, spiders, scrapers, or scripts to extract user profiles, directory listings, or research files from the Platform;
  • API Abuse: Flood or abuse our real-time WebSocket sync servers, NOAA/NASA telemetry relays, or WordPress Central Mailer endpoints;
  • Reverse Engineering: Decompile, reverse engineer, or disassemble the Lab web application, WebAssembly binary modules, or native Android APK packages; or
  • Account Sharing: Resell, sublicense, or share your account credentials across unauthorized external teams to circumvent plan pricing.

7. Harassment, Doxxing & Defamation

Our community includes independent investigators, historians, and venue owners across the globe. You agree not to:

  • Post or publish private addresses, phone numbers, or personally identifying information (“doxxing”) of private homeowners or witnesses;
  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, or threaten fellow researchers, property managers, or platform staff;
  • Publish defamatory, libelous, or maliciously false claims regarding private individuals, historical venues, or commercial businesses; or
  • Post hate speech, sexually explicit material, or content that incites illegal violence or vandalism.

8. Enforcement, Suspension & Account Termination

We take acceptable use violations seriously:

  • Investigation & Audit: We reserve the right to audit flagged case files, investigate reported violations, and cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities in cases involving criminal trespassing, unauthorized wiretapping, or property destruction.
  • Immediate Sanctions: Violations of this AUP may result in immediate suspension of account privileges, revocation of team access, permanent deletion of fraudulent case files, and total termination of your platform account without refund.

9. Reporting Violations

If you suspect an investigator or user has violated this policy (such as trespassing, unauthorized audio recording, or doxxing private homeowners), please report the incident immediately with supporting documentation to:
