This abandoned, supposedly haunted house can be seen from Highway 70. Take the Truxton exit and turn onto the service road. Follow it and watch on the right—you’ll know when you’ve found the house. No verified history is known, but witnesses report hearing a chilling woman’s scream echoing through the empty rooms. Footsteps have been heard on the stairs, banging has been reported in the basement, and a dark shadow figure has been seen in the top‑left window. Visitors often describe an overpowering sense that someone is watching them from that same window, and the feeling is unmistakably unsettling.
NO TRESPASSING. This house is private property, and the owners who live down the road do not welcome visitors.
December 2005 Update / Additional Information:
A family once lived in the house. The husband died in 1940. In 1963, the wife died—reportedly by suicide after slitting her wrists. The stepdaughter who provided this information says her family owns property in Hermann and has passed this house for many years. In 1975, her father went up to the house because he was interested in possibly buying the property. At that time, the house appeared to have been vacant for many years. Believing it was abandoned, he walked to the back porch and looked inside. There, he saw a woman with gray hair rocking back and forth in a rocking chair.
Who was this woman? The woman who owned the house had killed herself in 1963—twelve years earlier. There were no other known relatives, and no one was supposed to be living there. The house remains in unsafe condition.
