It’s been said to me that only sometimes when people go over the Mackinac Bridge you can hear a little baby crying because the parents had gotten into an accident on the bridge and they went over the side of the bridge and they had a little baby in the car with them.
May 2008 Update: According to Wikipedia, there have been two documented accidents on the bridge with one in 1989 and one in 1997. Neither accident involved a baby. Additionally, five workers died during the bridge’s construction.
Haunted Lineage note: This appears to be a "crybaby bridge" urban legend. This legend type is commonly associated with various bridges across the United States but is not specifically documented at the Mackinac Bridge. The claim about accidents in 1989 and 1997 has been verified, but neither accident involved a baby according to available records. Five workers did die during bridge construction (1954-1956), not on the bridge itself.
