In the early 70’s a runaway girl was taken into the woods and killed here. The killer was never caught but sometimes a pleading high pitched voice and muffled screams can be heard from the woods just off the Swamp Forest hiking trail which goes around Lums Pond.
Haunted Lineage note: Lums Pond was created in 1735 when St. Georges Creek was dammed for a sawmill. It was acquired by the Lum family in 1809. In the 1820s, it supplied water to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. The state acquired the land in 1963.
