"Gravity hills" and crybaby bridges: why does every county have one?

Put your car in neutral at the bottom of a specific country hill, and your vehicle slowly rolls uphill backwards. Or drive across an old iron bridge at midnight, dust baby powder on your bumper, and check for tiny handprints pushing you across.
Almost every rural county has its own version of this exact story, usually tied to a tragic school bus wreck from fifty years ago. Did you have a gravity hill or a haunted bridge near you growing up? Did you ever put your car in neutral to test it out?
