That split second seeing a shadow figure standing in your doorway

You wake up in the middle of the night or walk down a dark hallway, and you catch a tall, solid silhouette standing right in the doorframe. Your brain immediately tries to blame it on a coat hanging off a chair, until you blink, stare right at it, and realize there isn't anything hanging there at all.
Have you ever seen a full shadow figure or apparition with your own eyes? Did it stay still, or did it vanish the second you turned to look right at it?
