Haunted Lineage note: The listing title has been updated to Watts Hall at Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania, where Old Coaly’s skeleton was famously kept in the basement.
Old Coaly was a beloved work mule born in 1855 who came to Penn State in 1857. He spent decades hauling limestone blocks to help construct the original Old Main building and became the university’s first unofficial mascot. After his death in 1893, his skeleton was preserved and displayed across campus.
