Ellender Hall dormitory is reportedly home to flickering lights, moving objects, and phantom scratching. While rumors of a student suicide exist, no records confirm this. The activity is often linked to the campus being built on former Civil War hospital grounds.
It’s a small school and the classes are held in old historic houses. Some of the students giving the tour explained their personal encounter with some of the spirits in the houses.

McCandless Hall is reportedly haunted by Abigail Burns, a young actress who performed at the building’s dedication in 1914. Legend says she died in a carriage accident that night and returned to keep her promise to stay. Madame Childs is also said to haunt young women who stay out past curfew.
Library – The old stacks of the library are said to be haunted by a workman who fell during the construction of the library in 1929. Numerous sightings have been reported over the years as documented by the Campus Time newspaper.
Local legend says a construction worker was killed during the building of the new gymnasium and can still be heard roaming through it.
It is said that a janitor got stuck in the boiler room of the school and died, and now he haunts it at night. When someone goes by the boiler room after dark, you can sometimes hear him screaming for help.

DuBois Hall is a dormitory at Mount St. Mary’s University with a history of reported paranormal activity. Students have reported toilets flushing on their own, window shades being pulled up and down, and unexplained voices coming from empty rooms. The building is named for Father John DuBois, the founder of the university.
Father John DuBois, founder of Mount St. Mary’s University, is said to still roam the campus grounds. The university, founded in 1808, is one of the oldest Catholic universities in the country. Father DuBois has been reported walking the campus in his long black robes, occasionally smiling and nodding at those who see him.

At UVM in the Living and Learning Dorms (Section C), strange noises are always heard coming from under the staircases that lead into Section B, as if the dead had been lurking amongst us.
Grasse Mount House has a history of voices and doors locking and slamming on the second floor when no one is up there.
Coolidge Hall (dormitory) – has a few ghosts throughout, including a male presence that likes to wake up the residents by staring at them.
Converse Hall is haunted by a former student who committed suicide there. Though never seen, he turns radios on and off and interacts with electrical equipment. The student electrocuted himself in 1998.
