While in the facility at night after closing, there is a strong presence and a feeling of being followed and watched. Also, shadows appear in the corner of the eye, and then immediately disappear if looked at directly. Rumor (urban legend?) has it that a murder took place many years ago, or that a student hanged herself in one of the locker rooms.
Haunted Lineage note: Previously listed as “Johnson Gym University of New Mexico”. The official name is University of New Mexico – Johnson Center. The address and listing title were updated to reflect the correct official name and location.
Historical searches indicate these claims are mostly urban legends. There is no verified historical record of a murder or student suicide in the facility.
