The Riley-Carmack House in Plattsburg is widely known for its supernatural activity. Stories tell of friendly spirits lingering in the halls, with guests reporting soft touches, faint voices, and the feeling of unseen companions. However, the activity is not always welcoming. Rumors of a darker presence have also emerged, notably after a team of paranormal investigators reportedly fled the premises before dawn. Today, the property occasionally hosts special after-hours ghost-hunting events.
Built between 1886 and 1889 in the Eastlake and Queen Anne Victorian styles, the structure remained a private family residence until 1968. It was later acquired by the Clinton County Historical Society in the 1970s. The historic home now serves as a local museum dedicated to preserving the area’s heritage, featuring authentic turn-of-the-century furniture and regional artifacts.
