The Lady in White is also known as “Mary.” Mary was dating a jealous boyfriend who believed she was cheating on him. While driving down Sweet Hollow Road, she was pushed out of the car. Her injured body lay in the street, where she was struck by another passing vehicle. Her spirit is said to continue walking the road searching for her killer, frequently stepping out in front of cars. Another popular local legend claims she was a witch hanged here during the late 1600s, though historical records do not support this version. A third common variation claims she was struck and killed by a car in the 1920s while walking home. Her grave is said to rest in the cemetery along Sweet Hollow Road.
