Cold Spots

A Cold Spot is a localized, sudden, and sharp drop in ambient temperature within a confined spatial volume, typically dropping between 5°F and 20°F below the surrounding room baseline. Within paranormal theory, this rapid drop is hypothesized to occur when an entity siphons thermal kinetic energy directly from the ambient air to fuel physical manifestations, acoustic raps, or electromagnetic disturbances.

Unlike standard drafts that flow along the floor or leak around window seals, a true anomalous cold spot is often stationary, spherical, or slowly floating through an interior space. Witnesses encountering a cold spot frequently describe an immediate, penetrating chill accompanied by goosebumps and an intuitive sense of pressure.

Documenting a cold spot requires fast-response instrumentation. Standard analog mercury thermometers react too slowly to register fleeting thermal anomalies. Field teams rely on thermal imaging cameras (FLIR), non-contact infrared pyrometers, and calibrated fast-response thermistors to map the thermal gradient in real time. Rigorous debunking must eliminate HVAC duct returns, poor insulation cavities in ceiling joists, convective downdrafts from glass panes, and evaporative cooling from moisture before a reading can be classified as anomalous.
