Built in 1922, Roosevelt High School’s R Building served as the primary setting for activities associated with the 1968 East L.A. Chicano Student Walkouts. The building also historically served as a gathering site for Japanese-American students prior to internment during World War World II. Despite preservation efforts, the historic R Building was demolished in 2019 to make way for campus modernization.
