Ask any employee who has worked at Sierra Vista Hospital for any length of time–especially during the night shift–and they will tell you about a paranormal experience they’ve had. Built in the early 1950s, the old hospital has a long history of ghost sightings. Nurses report hearing the sound of a baby crying the day before a delivery. Night shift staff frequently spot apparitions out of the corner of their eyes, only for the figures to vanish when they turn for a better look. Beds have been known to raise and lower on their own without anyone operating the controls, and linen closet doors have been seen opening by themselves as people pass by. When the hospital first opened, it was operated by nuns who would bake brownies for the patients. Although the nuns are long gone, there have been several sightings of them cooking in the small second-floor hallway kitchen. Occasionally, the distinct smell of baking brownies can still be detected, even when the kitchen is empty. The building has recently been added on to.
