Mel-Meter Environmental Telemetry

The Mel-Meter is a specialized multi-sensor field instrument developed by electronics engineer Gary Galka specifically for parapsychological research. Unlike repurposed industrial Gaussmeters or HVAC thermometers, the Mel-Meter integrates simultaneous real-time monitoring of electromagnetic fields (measuring extremely low frequency AC radiation from 30Hz to 300Hz in milligauss) and high-speed ambient temperature readings (°F or °C) on a single backlit digital display.
The utility of the Mel-Meter in the field stems from its ability to test the thermodynamic and electromagnetic correlation hypothesis. Classical hauntings often report concurrent cold spots and electrical equipment failures. By utilizing an exposed, fast-response thermistor probe that registers thermal changes within fractions of a second alongside an EMF sensor, investigators can determine whether an abrupt temperature plunge is physically synchronized with a localized burst of electromagnetic energy.
Operating a Mel-Meter requires rigorous methodological discipline to avoid operator-induced artifacts. Because the unit measures AC magnetic fields, holding the meter close to electrical conduit within walls, appliances, or ungrounded baseboard wiring will register high baseline readings. Additionally, rapid sweeping motions through the Earth’s natural magnetic field can induce false mechanical readings, and investigator body heat radiating onto the external thermistor can distort ambient thermal data.
