Description

The Pink Lady was a benevolent spirit believed to be a young former patient buried in a pink gown. She is said to have appeared to help ease the passing of current clients. A worker in the 1980s saw her looking down from a second-story window. Another night-shift worker on L2 South Hall heard noises and found an opened closet with diapers on the floor, attributed to the Pink Lady (who some say carries a briefcase). A third worker quit after witnessing a closet door open on its own to roll a wheelchair into the room.

Passersby and daytime walkers have spotted the figure of a young boy waving from upper-level windows of abandoned structures, as well as shadows of patients and orderly staff walking along locked corridors that have long been disused.

Overnight personnel within the residential cottages (including Group Home #15) reported plumbing fixtures repeatedly operating on their own and shadowy forms darting down hallways. Trespassers and urban explorers report disembodied whistling, moving debris, and distant human vocalizations.

📝 Case Notes

Haunted Lineage note: Established by the Missouri General Assembly in 1899 and opening its doors in 1901, the facility originally operated as the Missouri State Colony for Feeble-Minded and Epileptic on nearly 300 acres donated by the city of Marshall. Later redesignated as the Marshall State School and Hospital in 1959, and ultimately the Marshall Habilitation Center, the complex expanded into a largely self-contained institutional campus home to hundreds of residents receiving long-term custodial care and developmental disability services. For over a century, it served as both a central care facility and a major regional employer, adapting through evolving state mental health policies until changing deinstitutionalization models led to its eventual closure and gradual demolition.
