Description

Visitors attending gravesites have reported seeing fully manifested family members sitting inside parked vehicles across the grounds. In one documented instance, a mourning driver was spotted accompanied by a woman and an older man who tipped his hat to onlookers—only for the driver to confirm he had arrived completely alone to clean his late relatives’ plots.

📝 Case Notes

Haunted Lineage note: Established in April 1885, Ridge Park Cemetery was developed after local civic leaders—led by board chairman P. H. Rea, Jacob VanDyke, and eleven other Marshall residents—sought a dedicated, elevated site to replace older, flood-prone burial grounds. Named at the suggestion of the Honorable William H. Letcher, the grounds were designed in the rural cemetery movement style by Louisville, Kentucky landscape engineer Ben Grove, who mapped out winding avenues, gardens, and ornamental features to ensure the grounds functioned as a scenic park rather than a stark graveyard. Situated along East Yerby Street adjacent to Indian Foothills Park, Ridge Park Cemetery remains an active, operating perpetual-care institution serving the Marshall community, functioning as the final resting place for roughly 13,000 individuals.
