The upper suites are very cold at night, and there’s a strong feeling of unease in the master bedroom of the two bedrooms. Rooms can feel uncomfortable, especially after dark.
In the Lafayette Lounge objects have been known to move of their own accord. Hotel and restaurant staff have reported mysterious goings on with the small elevator in the lobby, among other happenings elsewhere in the building. Sense of being watched. Sometimes the scent of rosewater perfume can be detected.
Sightings in the rotunda area have been limited. It was closed to the public following the hotel’s re-opening but was later converted into retail space around 1997 or 1998.
Strong presences are felt throughout, particularly in the northeast cloister near the Lincoln bust. The mission-themed Glockenspiel was designed by Alice Miller, who died just before its completion. The clock is notorious for misbehaving.
